Editor's Letter

Dear Saints,

We greet you in the wonderful name of our Lord Jesus! In this issue we conclude the two part series on The Gospel. Of course, the gospel is a much larger subject than that if you delve into all its aspects. Nevertheless my desire was to focus on its heart, trusting that God would use its truth to work as He would.

I believe that the Lord would have us to learn more than we ever have just how much salvation is God’s work. At best we are privileged to be vessels. Unless God is at work nothing will be accomplished. All of our cleverness and hard work put together amounts to nothing by itself. As Psalm 127:1 says, "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." I often heard Bro. Thomas say, "We need to just preach the word and let God save ‘em." May God help us to do so.

I fear that many times we are quick to "pull the trigger," trying to make something happen, to produce visible results. Much of that is just unbelief. Either "the gospel is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes" or it isn’t. Trying to elicit "decisions" through emotional altar calls is no substitute for God’s plan. We have but to seek God that we may preach, pray, and live the gospel message and He will be faithful to save every one of His elect.

We live in the era in America of the mega-church, many thousands of members, great buildings, a great deal of religious "busyness." I wonder just how much of all that represents a true work of God. A so-called "seeker-friendly" gospel that will not confront what is truly wrong with men armed with God’s power alone is no gospel at all. May God raise up an army of anointed workers in this hour who are just foolish enough to do God’s work in God’s way and trust Him for the results He seeks.

Since the last issue we have had a couple of particular events. One of them was our "Kids Camp," held in July at the Bible Tabernacle. This year’s theme was the Book of Esther. We had something like 100 attendees and a precious closing program involving them all in a play based on Esther.

Once again we traveled to Columbia, South Carolina for our "Youth Camp" over Labor Day Weekend at the beginning of September. We had people from a number of states there and were much blessed in our fellowship and the Lord greatly blessed in the services with words that were both challenging and encouraging.

And now, until the next issue may God richly bless you...

Your brother in Christ,
Phil Enlow
