Midnight Cry Messenger

Volume XLXV: Number 4 -- October-November-December, 2004

Left: Great fellowship mailing the MCM!

Editor's Letter

Dear Saints,

We greet you in the wonderful name of our Lord Jesus! Regular readers will quickly notice two things about this issue. First, it is only 4 pages. In part, this is closely related to the second thing: we are considerably behind schedule! For this I apologize and take full responsibility. I trust that getting this smaller issue out will help to enable us to begin catching up. Actually, the MCM was typically only 4 pages for many years but more recently there were things that needed to be included in it that more or less forced us to 8 pages. In any case, our love and prayers are still with all of you and we want you to know we're still here.

Another thing many will notice is that this issue is devoted to a new article on "Divorce & Remarriage" rather than continuing the series, "Examine Yourselves." By God's grace we still hope to complete this series -- the next part will examine "The Test of Fellowship" -- but somehow my mind and heart were drawn to the controversial subject of Divorce & Remarriage.

Sometime back I received a letter from a young brother who rather passionately took the common "hard line" position. Bro. Thomas had written something touching on this area many years ago but I felt a desire to prayerfully take a fresh look. It didn't take long in searching the web on the subject to be reminded that there are a great many varied opinions and that there are many people who are affected, including ministers who must cope with situations that arise in their churches.

You may react to all this by saying, "This doesn't affect me so I don't need to read it." I would encourage anyone to read this article as I believe it touches on truth that affects many more areas of our lives than just the question at hand regarding divorce. The whole question of law vs. grace is very central. As I looked to the Lord and meditated on the scriptures involved I was very blessed by the balance I saw in how the Apostle Paul handled these kinds of questions. Whatever your ideas may be I would encourage you to read prayerfully, with an open mind.

One of the wonderful things about truth is that it sets free. One of my great burdens as a minister of the word is for an honest balance that breaks free of the various traditions that have become entrenched in different "brands" of religion. What we need is an honest look at the scriptures themselves as they are opened up to us by the Author. He knows! May He grant us wisdom and understanding.

Our churches continue to be much blessed with the Lord's presence. It is a trying hour and I believe the greatest hour of spiritual darkness in earth's history lies ahead of us but God is teaching and preparing His people. Our entire hope lies with Him! He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us.

We have had a number of people contact us who were accustomed to listening to the Midnight Cry TV Broadcast on Sky Angel and wondered what happened. In the providence of God we are no longer on Sky Angel but at the same time that change came about He opened up a wonderful new opportunity through The Church Channel. This channel reaches most of the world through satellite and we praise God for this open door. The broadcast comes on at 2 PM Sunday, Pacific Time (5 PM, Eastern Time). For those who have a good broadband connection to the internet it is also simultaneously available on the Church Channel website.

The Lord has given us an amazing outreach -- worldwide radio, nearly worldwide TV, besides the website and publications. We have never sought these kinds of broadcast outlets, they have come to us! We covet your prayers that we would always have something worth broadcasting, something that will stir the lost and feed the sheep. There is no virtue in having a broadcast unless those things happen.

I would also mention to those who are unable to pick up the radio broadcast in their area that it is available on our website (www.midcry.org) and can even be heard by those with only a dial-up connection. I hope you will listen.

We continue to be in contact with laborers in gospel work in many places in the earth and want all to know that our prayers are with you. Our hearts are particularly touched by the great needs occasioned by the tsunami in Asia. Our brothers and sisters need our ongoing love and prayers in the affected areas. And now, until the next issue, which we sincerely hope will be soon, may God richly bless you...

Your brother in Christ,
Phil Enlow
